Dear Moffat Creek families and care givers:
As we continue to navigate the school year learning from each other, and with our students, we have felt the need to explicitly share the 23/24 Moffat Creek Code of Conduct with our students, and with you. This slide deck was created by Principal Erica Gillespie, in conversation with all of our staff – every classroom teacher had an opportunity to input their ideas and thoughts in collaboration with our administrators, prior to the creation of this final product.
We feel it is important to share it with you as well, as a way to create cohesion in our conversations with our students, in regards to expectations, rules, and responsibilities. Classroom teachers were asked to review these rules today and modify them to their own classes – we have included a .pdf version of it here for you, that you can print and review it at home as well, if you so choose, and ask your child what these rules look like in their own classes, as they may change from room to room, adapting best to each subject and grade level needs.
For example – we might say “no phones” but there might be a way to allow music in something like Art, or it might be needed for music, or we might have a student that relies on it at the end of class as an agenda, or for calming strategies for their mental health etc. We need to have a common language, but we also understand the need to be flexible and respect the diversity that exists in our building. This link will also be posted on our home page under our menu.
We sincerely appreciate your support at home, in having conversations that reinforce these expectations.
Carolina Miranda (VP) and Erica Gillespie (P)
