Agenda May 2014

Safe Welcome begins May 5th

In December 2012 the Provincial Government announced its intention to enhance security measures in elementary schools across Ontario. This announcement was prompted by a tragedy that occurred in an elementary school in Newtown Connecticut. The Safe Welcome initiative involves the locking of all doors in elementary schools. This initiative is being implemented in nearly all school districts across Ontario.

The Waterloo Region District School Board is committed to the safety and security of students and staff.  Implementation of this initiative is occurring at our elementary schools throughout the 2013-

2014 school year.  All visitors (parents, vendors, central Board staff, etc.) to elementary schools will access the main doors to the school using an intercom system. The system will integrate the needs of before/after school programs, child care locations and those sites with portables.

It is recognized that having all school doors locked will be new for our school community. Our students, parents and staff will need to work together collaboratively as this initiative is implemented at our school.

We know that the first priority of everyone in our school community is the safety of our students. We appreciate everyone’s support and commitment to keeping our kids safe through the Safe Welcome

Chocolate Bar Campaign

This year our students at Moffat Creek will once again participate in a chocolate fundraising campaign to raise money for the following:

A) To off-set the cost of a sign for the school on the front school grounds

B) To provide a fund for families in need in times of emergency

C) To off-set the cost of a gym score clock

Each carrying case contains 30 individual bars and each bar sells for $3.00 or $90.00 per case. We will have a variety of exciting prizes for the students throughout the campaign. Our campaign was to officially start on Friday April 25th and end on Friday, May16th. At this time we await the arrival of the Chocolate Bars so that we can start our fundraiser. Thank you in advance for your support of this program!

Moffat Creek will be using school-day for booking parent teacher interviews this year. This is a great way for you to view and book available appointments  with your childs teacher(s) at one time. You must sign up for school-day to use this service. If you are not already signed up you may request a secure match-key for your child. It is very easy to use and we also use this system to “blast” emails and notices to our parents. One of our parents was quoted as saying…

“Just used school day to schedule interviews for all the kids….what a breeze!!! :-) Parents NEED to get on this!”

If you need assistance with school-day please contact the office.
